Testing Methodology
A summary of the analytical methods used to verify AXIOM research compounds, what each method establishes, and how results are reported on the Certificate of Analysis.
Identity — mass spectrometry
Liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC-MS) resolves the material and measures the mass of the resulting species. The observed mass is reconciled against the theoretical mass of the declared structure.
Reported as: identity confirmed / not confirmed, with the observed and expected mass.
Purity — high-performance liquid chromatography
Reverse-phase HPLC with UV detection separates the principal component from related substances. Purity is expressed as the area percentage of the principal peak against total integrated area.
Reported as: purity percentage against the specification threshold for that compound.
Content — quantitative assay
Quantitative assay measures how much of the declared compound is present per unit, calibrated against a reference standard. This is what confirms the strength printed on the label.
Reported as: measured content against declared content, expressed as a percentage of label claim.
Endotoxin
Bacterial endotoxin content is determined by Limulus amebocyte lysate methodology and reported against a defined limit in endotoxin units.
Elemental impurities
Heavy metal and elemental impurity screening is performed by ICP-MS. Results are reported per element against defined limits.
Microbiological testing
Microbiological examination covers total aerobic microbial count, total combined yeast and mould count, and screening for the seven specified organisms listed on the Laboratory Verification page.
Reporting and retention
Results are issued by the performing laboratory as a Certificate of Analysis. AXIOM publishes that certificate unmodified against the batch it describes and retains the record for the life of the batch.
